13 Days of Horror: Chucky in Child’s Play 1&2 (1988, 1990)

Chucky is the spirit of serial killer Charles Lee Ray, who manages to transfer his soul into a Good Guy doll after being mortally wounded by a cop. The first Child’s Play film mostly plays off of the suspense that the audience is aware the doll is alive while the film’s characters aren’t fully aware of this fact until it is too late. Once the big reveal happens, the film immediately knocks up that body count so the film can provide a few additional scares. Also worth watching is the 1990 sequel to see how Child’s Play veered more towards the slasher aspect of the horror genre and seeing how Chucky became more of a caricature of a villain, yet entertaining nonetheless.
