2016 Emmy Winner Prediction: Outstanding Direction for a Limited Series or Movie

With three nominations in this category, one would suspect that The People Versus O.J. Simpson will walk away with a win, especially for its first episode that perfectly established the limited series (“From the Ashes of Tragedy”). The odds of this limited series winning are great, but the three nominations could easily split the vote, allowing another nominee to win. In that scenario, it is likely Jay Roach will walk away for his direction of the Lyndon Johnson Civil Rights biopic All the Way. Roach is also a popular director with voters, having won an Emmy before for the HBO film Game Change in 2012 and nominated for Recount in 2008, which could boost his chances. All the Way is also expected to win in the movie category, which may give it enough momentum to achieve a directing win as well. However what should win is Susanne Bier’s amazing direction of the limited series The Night Manager with its perfectly executed suspense buildup and gorgeous scenery.

The Nominees:
All the Way – Jay Roach
Fargo – “Before the Law” – Noah Hawley
The Night Manager – Susanne Bier
The People Versus O.J. Simpson – “From the Ashes of Tragedy” – Ryan Murphy
The People Versus O.J. Simpson – “Manna From Heaven” – Anthony Hemingway
The People Versus O.J. Simpson – “The Race Card” – John Singleton

Will Win: All the Way – Jay Roach
Could Win:  The People Versus O.J. Simpson – “From the Ashes of Tragedy” – Ryan Murphy
Should Win: The Night Manager – Susanne Bier
