Last year Jeffrey Tambor wowed audiences with his incredible performance in Transparent. What especially made his role different in the show’s second season was maintaining the integrity of the performance he had established and realistically building off of that. Tambor did just that, and like the previous season, held the entire series on his shoulders without ever seeming to break a sweat. Tambor is such a talent on Transparent and he deserves another Emmy for his work.
Any win outside of Jeffrey Tambor would undoubtedly be an upset in this category, but all nominees could be rationalized winning over Tambor. William H. Macy has been an effective presence on Shameless for years, having won an SAG for his performance and voters may feel he’s earned his due. Anthony Anderson is a fan favorite with audiences and voters for his outstanding work on Black-ish and shouldn’t be underestimated. With Silicon’s Valley’s Emmy nomination success this year, it could give Thomas Middleditch the push he needs to attain a win. Will Forte continues to be the best aspect of the rather profound Last Man on Earth. But if anyone should beat Jeffrey Tambor, it should be Aziz Ansari for his brilliant, hilarious, and honest acting in Master of None. Considering Ansari also wrote and directed Master of None, voters will definitely take that into consideration, which may translate into a win.
